RE: Federal Land Grab

Yes! That's great! Most of out public lands should be non motorized. But in deference to the handicapped, maybe we should look at opening a few small areas to motorized wheelchairs/quads that do less than 15 mph (actually 5 mph)so people who qualify in the handicap catagory can use our public parks. But I'm not sure this is what the Got Dirt? crowd had in mind...
They got 30 spaces at Home Depot what more do they want.

RE: Federal Land Grab

Most people go camping in the forest to enjoy the view and wildlife. But in too many areas public lands seem to be taken over by quad/dirt bikes that seem intent on destroying it--screaming past with loud, high performance vehicles, impervious to the wild life they scare and chase off. No problem, if getting around is difficult because of your age/physical problems, (hey. I'm in the 50 yo category myself!)then lets allow people to ride quads/dirt bikes, providing they have a governor on them with a top speed of 15 mph, are 4 stroke and pass a decibel test.
But I'm afraid the Got Dirt? crowd will still object!
Too many areas taken over? Are you on dope?
The feds own more land than ever in the history of the USA : 759 million acres.
There are only 3, yes THREE public riding areas in my state.(596,000 acres of FED timbler in FL) Do you have any idea of how many darn campgrounds are in any state?

RE: Compartment door on curb side

Just a thought: The strut will have to be quite long to open the door past 90 degrees or you will be ducking under it to get your stuff.

RE: Looking for Info and Help

seperate garages are not typically heated, they usually have AC because its routed through the ceiling. One thing to consider in an open floor plan (without seperate garage) is that there generally are no heater vents towards the back of toyhaulers. Generally its a bit colder in the back of open floor plan models.
Agree 100% I always slept in the front of our last TH. One cold night I slept out back, burrr.

RE: 5er gets hammered on highways

I would suspect an out-of-balance tire. Might be worth having a dynamic balance check to see if or how much it bounces before any correction.
Ron
I'll 2nd. It may not be your only issue but people do not realize just how much unbalance tires shake your rig.

RE: Kohler 7000 genset Motorheads I need help

Plastic valve covers on Kohlers tend to leak. That might be your oil leak.
If the hole in the exhaust may be choking the engine out if it is too close to the compartment.

RE: 2004 Honda TRX250EX

My .02 I have owned, maintained, or at least rode all the ATV suggested.
Yama 450: Too heavy, most mechanically complexes of the group.
Yama 250: Best choice if you have the $$.
Yama 200: Best play bike to modify (2 stroke)old school tech is easy to repair. Suspension is the worst of the group.
Honda 250/300EX
Suzuki 250
All mechanically similar, top speed, suspension and drive.
The Honda 250 is physically smallest.
The Honda 300 and Suzuki 250 can be ridden by and adult all day.

RE: 12000 lb bumper pull toy hauler-- white knuckle towing?

It will be fine as long as you have a WD set up and sway control.
I think the bigger issue is where you plan to take it.
Off road or switch backs?

RE: Nuisance Propane Alarms

You needed a new one anyway. Five year life span on those before they start going off at 3AM.
95% of our camping is in the winter. I always fire up the furnace for a few hours before our first trip with the doors open. The burnt dust smell always sets off all the alarms.

RE: GM 8.1L V8 vs. Ford 6.8L V10

Both will do but:
6.8L V10, go late 2002 or newer, older units had issues with spark plug threds pulling out and less HP
8.1L V8 some 2002/03 had issues consuming oil. (bad rings and/or valve guide seals)

RE: '08 Puma 15FKU

'99 F-150 with 4.6. Berryland RVs in Ponchatoula, LA has one for $14,900. the Puma is about 4000# dry. it's hilly around here, but I would like to go to New Mexico and Colorado next spring.
I had the 3.55 in my 97 F150. It sucked for towing. If you can get the 3.83 gears in the stock housing it will help the power and keep your parts cost down.

RE: '08 Puma 15FKU

Make the best of what you have.
I saw them at a few shows.(21~24ft) An entry level unit at a good price is how I saw them. They seem to be built just as well as Keystone, Salem, RPM, etc.
The 150 will need at least a 4.6L & 4.10 rear end. It may be short at 18ft but it's still a brick going down the road.

RE: Need more pulling power

Skip all BS.
Have the ECM scaned for codes. Gummed up turbos are common.
The noise is most likely a broken fan shroud hitting the fan blades. I have two broken shrouds on the shop floor right now.
PS. Chips and such can get you 600hp from the 6.0 but the head bolts stretch and things go to to hell from there.

RE: 2005 Keystone Hornet??

Thanks--I'm not to concerned about the price--know how to look that up and consider market conditions etc.
What I am really looking for is anyone that has personal experience with the Keystone Hornet Toyhaulers
I do not own one but I almost bought one. I had good luck with Keystone products.
This is fiberglass sides with the 10ft garage no slide right?
Pros: Fiberglass slide, divided garage, low slung, Nice int, all the ones I saw were "loaded" with extras.
Cons: 10ft garage is too small for more than two quads, garage wall and no slide and 8ft ceiling makes the inside feel real small.
May be too low slung for off road trails. Water tanks are small by todays stds.(50/30/30 I think)

RE: Looking for first toy hauler

Sometimes it's easier to make a list of "must haves" and "wants" and then see which THs are still in the mix. Here's some ideas ..
Cargo space
Tank sizes
Dual queen bunks?
Microwave
Front bath or front kitchen
Generator (if you're going in the boonies I'd buy a Champion and pocket $2700)
Wet or dry bath
Once you have decided what you must have or don't want then it's easier to narrow down the brand/model you want
You might be able to pick up a near new used one and save a pile of money.
Agree 100%. 18~21ft seems to be the right size for the outdoors man.

RE: New Heartland ? & towing w/F250 ?

You should be fine. I have an 04F250CC/V10/4WD/3.73 16k Superglide. You have more motor, better brakes, and a better trans than I do.
My Rage'n is close to 10K before the toys. You may need air bags or Timbrens due to the pin weight. That the only mod you need IMHO.
